Gen Con 2015

This year's Gen Con journey is coming up fast. I am going to be there again as well as my husband, brothers, and my brother-in-law, Louis. It is Louis's first time at Gen Con and he just informed me this past weekend that he wishes to cosplay. He wants to go as Link, which we had planned a year ago, but never started. While this is great and super fun, we have less than a month to pull this off. Also, Louis has never sewn anything before. We have the basic beginnings of his tunic done, and he is catching on to sewing fast. Luckily, there is this great blog walk through for the Ocarina of Time Link that we are using. It has been so helpful! Here is the link (ha): http://meowaboutcosplay.com/guides_tutorials/link.html

I am going to go as Navi. My costume is almost done. I have the corset, skirt, shoes, wig, and shirt. I may remake my skirt. My husband, Ray, wants to cosplay as well. He is going to go as Sakon the Thief. We are going to buy quite a bit of his costume, but he is already bald, so that is a good start.

I am going down with just my brothers on Wednesday. We will have quite the quality sibling time until late Thursday night when others arrive. I am taking a molding and casting class on Thursday, and I am so excited for it as well as the brewery tour on Friday. I believe we have a horror RPG on Friday night, as is our tradition. I did not sign up for much this year, but I will be cosplaying Saturday, which takes quite a bit of time out of the day. I am getting more and more excited for Gen Con and will hopefully get some cosplay progress pictures up soon.

Things I am excited about

So yet again, everyday life has gotten in the way of writing about awesome things, but there is some stuff coming up that I am really excited about. Wisconsin is finally getting a Comic Con! It is the first weekend of February in Madison. There are a surprising amount of guests that are well known, but I am most excited about Bruce Campbell! In my opinion, the price is a bit steep since it is the first Comic Con/Wizard World in Madison ($75), but I do understand the name brand aspect of it. Here is the site if you want to check it out.

In other convention news, I once again was approved for a professional badge for C2E2. I am trying to figure out if the husband and I can scrape together the cash to spend the weekend in Chicago. The pricing is not too bad, but with also attending Wisconsin Comic Con it could be too much. Hopefully I will get to go and get in the hour early on Friday, cause that was a fun experience.

Weirdly, I have found some really awesome accessories and clothing at Hot Topic lately. They had/ are having a pretty great sale where I picked up a few things. I love this Deathly Hallows watch. It works really well at the library as my work watch. I also grabbed this adorable KiK's Delivery Service tank. I am still holding out for this JiJi hoodie, but it is still a bit rich for my blood.

So that is what has been on my mind lately. I will for sure update about Wisconsin Comic Con as it approaches!

Comic Con Announcements

Ok, so I wasn't going to write anything about Comic Con fun, but too many great things have come to my attention to not talk about. Here it goes:

Her Universe, which creates adorable nerdy clothes for everyday wear, announced they are teaming up with Studio Ghibli for a line of clothing that will only be sold at Hot Topic. A few pieces from the line were shown at the super awesome fashion show that was sponsored by Her Universe, Hot Topic, and the Nerdist. Fashionable Geek posted pictures of the new clothing line here.

Speaking of the super awesome fashion show, you can see all of the amazing outfits over at Pop Sugar.
There were some really amazing pieces. I'm sad that the wedding dresses weren't around when I was looking for one.

Off of the fashion note, Geek Tyrant has news that Sam Raimi announced that he is working on Evil Dead the TV series. I have no idea what this would actually entail, but Bruce Campbell is involved and I am excited.

The poster art from Ant-Man was also released and looks super freaking amazing. I love Paul Rudd, but the replacement of Edgar Wright is still hard for me to handle.
(Oooohhh Ahhhhhhh)

Adventure Time was picked up for a 7th Season, so that's awesome. Benedict Cumberbatch teased at the Penguins of Madagascar panel that he may be up for the role of Doctor Strange, but Tom Hardy, Jared Leto, and Joaquin Phoenix have all been tied to the role as well. Hopefully there will be an answer during tomorrows Marvel Panel.

What are other people excited about? I may post again if things get too exciting. I am going to start work on my Kiki costume soon for Gen Con and will hopefully have updates with pictures soon.

Crown Championships of Cosplay

Saturday night C2E2 saw a huge event: The Crown Championships of Cosplay. Me and my group sat through the 24 panel just to make sure we had good seats for the competition. Our plan seemed to pay off. We were in the second row of regular C2E2 badge holders. The C2E2 staff had to cut the line off into the huge room because it was full. It was a great experience and the rest of this post will mostly be pictures speaking for themselves. Also, the slide before each costume says who the cosplayer is and what costume they are wearing. Sorry if the pictures are a bit blurry. Enjoy!

All of the Lovely Judges: Nan Cibula-Jenkins, Ashley Eckstein, Yaya Han, and Austin Scarlett

The first category of costumes was comic book characters.

The next category of costumes was fantasy and anime.

This was a 35 foot tall dragon that actually breathed fire.

The third category was movies and television.

She was an adorable eleven year old girl whose dad helped her out.

The last category was video games.

She was so creepy and really got into her Little Sister cosplay.

All of the costumes were honestly amazing. The amount of time it would take to make any of these costumes is staggering. All of these costumes involved a lot of different skill sets such as sewing and fabricating. And now for the winners

The winner in the comic book category was:

Ming the Merciless

The runners up were Lady Hawk and Iron Man.

The winner in the fantasy and anime category was:

Fai D. Flowright

The runners up were Red Riding Hood the Warrior and Envy the Green Fairy.

The winner in the movie and television category was:

 Queen Amidala

The runners up were Anna from Frozen and Bumblebee.

The winner in the video game category was:

Big Daddy

The runners up were Helena Douglas and Commander Shepherd.

The over all winner was Big Daddy followed by Ming the Merciless, Queen Amidala, and Fai D. Flowright.

Attending this event was a lot of fun. The energy was great and the crowd really got into it. The judges explained that they spent three hours in pre judging looking at the craftsmanship of all the costumes. I really loved the demon hunter a lot a lot. The one thing that really bugged me about the show was the crowd booed when Bumblebee did not win his category. Because of the judges looking at craftsmanship, I figured they had looked at the costumes close enough to be the real judge. All of the costumes were great and the show was really entertaining. I think that C2E2 should consider an honorable mention or two to point out really great costumes that almost made the top three, but it would be hard to decided where to cut that off. I hope you all enjoyed the pictures and look for a post about my experience on Sunday of C2E2 coming soon!
